Diet and Cancer
There are many factors which results in increased risk of cancer however according to one estimate about 30 per cent of all cancers could be the result of our diet. Following are some of the tips to help reducing the risk.
Reduce excess weight Obesity is associated with a marked increase in cancer and reducing excess weight would certainly reduce in reducing risk.
Eat more fruit and vegetables At least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day can reduce the risk of many different types of cancer. Please remember that there is no substitute for fresh fruit and vegetables.
Eat more fibre Cancer of the large bowel is the second most prevalent cancer in the UK, affecting one in eight people. Fibre helps in smooth bowel movement and thus helps in reducing the risk of cancer.
Eat less fat A high-fat diet is linked to an increased risk of colorectal cancer.
Drink alcohol in moderation Excessive intake of alcohol has been linked with an increased risk of cancer of the mouth, liver and throat.
